Sport at the Community Centre
As part of the Olympic legacy, Sport England has a funding programme to enable sports facilities to be improved at appropriate sites. As most of us know, the old school yard at the Community Centre is in a bad way and this programme, called “Inspires Facilities” offers a way to make some improvements. We have submitted bids to this programme, supported by a bid for funding from Suffolk Coastal District Council (plus the required planning application) to relay the tarmac and fence the site [to keep balls and small children in and dogs out].

Having visited a large number of sites and talked with the persons involved in maintaining them, a short-list of possible equipments has been drawn up. Views of the youth club and parishioners and anyone else interested have been taken into account. Given the site available and what is desirable and realistic, a limited range is being put forward. It is proposed to install a fixed basket-ball hoop, table-tennis and keep-fit machines. There will be a petanque pitch and a badminton court and hopscotch will be marked out. (click here see attached plan)

At the moment, there is no provision for play equipment for small children as it is not covered by this initiative. If anyone would like to prepare a bid for this type of facility, I’d be very pleased to hear from them. A single piece of equipment, such as the popular “tractor” at Hacheston and Westleton would cost about £6000.
